My favourite time of the year...

My favourite time of the year is volunteering with Young Folk at the Hall with the Folk art Society and Fergus O’Byrne. I got my start in traditional music through YFATH and it makes my day to be able to come back and mentor the up and coming young musicians of Newfoundland. ❤️🎻

Playing with Brad Tuck and band

It’s always a pleasure playing with Brad Tuck and the band! We’ve had a busy couple of months playing for Brad’s CD release, opening for Shanneyganock and a guest appearance with Fairgale! Thanks for having me along for the ride!

My Favourite part of MusicNL week was...

My favourite part of MusicNL weekend was being able to stop into Twillingate Island Elementary with Ms. Stuckless and play with the kids. Many had never seen a violin in person before. Hearing their voices singing along to a classic makes my heart melt.

It was an absolutely surreal experience meeting Margaret Bennett face to face....

It was an absolutely surreal experience meeting Margaret Bennett face to face for the first time today after being in email correspondence with her for almost 2 years! I first contacted Margaret in 2017 after finding some of her field recordings of the MacArthur family in the Codroy Valley of Newfoundland. I had transcribed some of the fiddle tunes and wanted to put my arrangements of them on my CD “Painted Glass.” In the process of contacting her, I found out that Margaret’s home was at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Through the jigs and the reels, we were able to keep in touch and today, I finally got to meet her in person. Upon meeting her, she took me to the front of the room and introduced me to the nieces of Frank MacArthur who happened to be there and were thrilled to hear that their uncle’s legacy was being passed onto a new generation. I am so proud to be passing on the traditions of music in Newfoundland and this encounter enhanced this sense of pride.
